It is a little known fact that the Kinetic Law team members have known each other for many years outside the legal world. Our history as friends and family outside the law office led to an effective legal practice.
Rod has been connected to the Ketsa family for many decades as members of St. Herman's Orthodox Church. Tammy and Rod formed a friendship that led to their working relationship at Tkachuk & Patterson.
In the Spring of 1969, Rod Tkachuk began his accomplished legal career that, over the next 49 years, would evolve in to Kinetic Law. Rod has invaluable experience and expertise in many areas of law providing both client consultation and partner mentorship. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1969, moved to Edmonton to complete his articles, and entered private practice after being called to the Bar in the summer of 1970. In the late 1970s, Rod became a Prosecutor with the Crown. In 1981, Rod Tkachuk, together with David Patterson, formed Tkachuk & Patterson. After a partnership of nearly 20 years in Real Estate, Corporate Commercial, Wills and Estate matters, and Family Law, David took on a new full time roll with MacEwan University and he and Rod dissolved their partnership, leaving the Patterson name with the firm.
In 2002, Tammy Ketsa joined the firm as legal assistant and office manager. Tammy is an integral part of the team providing personalized service to clients through each step of the numerous legal processes. Having Tammy transition to Kinetic Law is a fundamental part of our success.
In the Fall of 2015, Rod and Tammy welcomed Kimberley Ketsa into the fold. Kimberley is Tammy’s daughter and Rod's goddaughter. Together they have worked hard on bringing experience and innovation to their clients. Kimberley graduated from the University of Calgary Law School in 2014 and articled at a small general practice firm, gaining specialized experience in family litigation and collaborative law. Kimberley was subsequently called to the Bar in July 2015 and joined Tkachuk & Patterson in August 2015. Kimberley is a respected Mediator and Registered Collaborative Lawyer, specializing in divorce and Family Law. Also assisting clients with their Wills and Estate matters and Real Estate transactions, Kimberley works tirelessly to ensure her client’s voice is heard, while finding the best possible legal solutions to meet their goals.
With Kimberley's energy, the three looked to expand from their small office to a new location with more space, room to expand and updated technology to better serve our clients. Our new office location is 17704 - 103 Avenue NW, Suite #103. Kimberley took on the role as owner and managing partner of Kinetic Law in 2019.
While our lives have intertwined through school, law and work, we have also come together as community volunteers. Despite our busy practice, we believe that service to the community is a vital part of what a law firm does. For years, Rod and Kimberley have volunteered for the Edmonton Food Bank every month. All of our members served as camp counselors and youth leaders for children in their community. Kimberley volunteers for the Edmonton Community Legal Centre and the Canadian Bar Association, both organizations committed to access to justice. Tammy is the Secretary and former VP of the Haskap Alberta Association.
After years of gaining experience at separate firms in various areas of law, each member of the Kinetic Law team was recently at a cross roads. We came together with a passion for justice and community service. Supporting each other as friends and colleagues led to a common goal of founding a law firm based on shared values of ethics, family and efficiency. We are truly a family and bring those same values of respect and reliability to our firm. We are united by the same mission in providing legal services: focus on ethical practice, excellent client service and finding the best solutions. Kinetic Law is about energy, innovation, connection and resolution.
